Step-By-Step Procedures

  • Contact any child welfare agency or a voluntary co-ordinating agency for information on adoption Directory
  • Register with any one agency with whom you feel comfortable. Please do not register with more than one, this results in unnecessary duplication of work.
  • Read and fill the Documents carefully
  • Set up an appointment with the Social Worker for single interviews, joint interviews, and a home visit
  • Discuss all the doubts, expectations with the Social worker
  • Please wait patiently. All efforts will be made by the agency to locate a suitable child for you this may take time - anything from 3 to 6 months, depending on the availability of children. This period is considered as the time between conception and the birth of a baby. This period allows a couple to get emotionally prepared for adoptive parenthood.
  • The social worker will arrange for you to see the child that has been identified for you.
  • Once you decide to adopt the child , it is important to get the medical re-examination done with a doctor of your choice to reassure yourself of the child's health.
  • When you finally decide, you have to meet a lawyer who will help you file all the required papers in court before you can take the child home in pre-adoptive foster care.
  • The social worker will assist you with all legal formalities and you may be rquired to attend court.
  • Documents related to the adoption wil be given to you by your lawyer, the decree, the Deed of adoption(if relevant) and the Birth affidavit of the child.
  • The social worker will keep in touch with you and visit you for follow-ups as per agency's rules Post adoption follow-up report
