When the child has been relinquished by the biological parents or by the mother, the child is in the care and custody of the adoption agency. The law allows the biological parents three months reconsideration period. During this period (period in between reniquishment and adoption), the children live with foster families, institutions and orphanages.
The foster homes are an indispensable part of the adoption process. They play very important role in the early care of the child who is awaiting adoption.
